FOUNTAIN INN, SC-State Senator and Fourth Congressional District Candidate David Thomas made the following statement regarding the groundbreaking of the new Boeing facility in Charleston, South Carolina:

“This is a breakthrough project for Boeing’s entire operations and the state of South Carolina because much of the original parts and assembly is being accomplished for the first time outside Seattle, Washington.  Along with BMW, Boeing’s addition now firmly establishes South Carolina as an industrial manufacturing leader.  With the news today that unemployment is now above 12%, this offsetting economic development news from Boeing will begin to help South Carolina turn the corner on employment and economic development.”

Senator David Thomas was the only state legislator from the Upstate to attend the ground breaking of the new Boeing facility in Charleston, S.C.

“My purpose for attending the ground breaking was to establish relationships with Boeing executives that could help give contacts to potential employees for Boeing and to potential suppliers from the Upstate.  South Carolina as a traditional right to work state and the extraordinary work ethic of our citizens place South Carolina in a superior position for future Boeing moves.”

“The potential for new plant development in future years is very real.  There is every reason to believe the Upstate could receive new plant placement in the Upstate.  One of my goals in coming to this event was to make sure that the Upstate was represented and that I make contact with Boeing executives.”
